What We Are Doing
Well here we are, planning a trip around the UK coast, we leave on the 12th of June for the 2 and a half month trip, in a boat about the length of a modern estate car. Crazy? Foolhardy?

Well we like to think so.

The aim of this sponsored sail is to raise money for the Fellowship Afloat's bursary fund, which provides oppurtunities for people to enjoy outdoor activities who might otherwise not be able to afford it.

One of Fellowship Afloat's big goals is to allow as many people as possible the oppurtunity to enjoy the activities that the centre provides. Over the years this has meant subsidising the costs for many individuals and groups.

The fund setup to provide for these groups and individuals has been supported over the years by generous legacy's and donations, but this has over the last three years been depleted as Fellowship Afloat has sought to offer itself to more.

We plan with this trip to replenish the bursary fund, our goal £10,000 is the amount that Fellowhsip Afloat spent last year from this fund, and if we can raise it will guarantee another years worth of support.

Please keep checking this page as we update it with our location and the tales of our travels around the UK. If you would like to donate money to the bursary fund Click on the link at the top of the page.
Jelly Fish Clothing
Do you want to help raise awareness of our trip, or perhaps just need a few more T-shirts to get you through the summer?

Have a look at the range of clothes you can buy with our logo here. 15% of all sales goes to Fellowship Afloat Bursury Fund.
The end of the beginning
I have finished my university course, Mary has reached her final exams, and there are only 12 days until we set sail around Britain.  So far we have raised almost £2500 for the bursary fund (see http://www.fact.org.uk/ for more info) which is fantastic!

As you can see, we are on the front page of the Essex Chronicle, and with further BBC Essex interviews to come, it seems like publicity is increasing. We are close to securing sponsorship from Honda, however, we still need a LIFE RAFT and a PERSONAL LOCATOR BEACON- see below for more details.

Thank you all so much for your support so far, and keep a look out for further news as our departure date draws ever closer!

Becky (and Mary)

Liferaft anyone?
The navigational and safety equipment on Jellyfish has almost all been acquired and fitted.  There is just one major item missing, our life raft.  There are many arguments about whether you really need a life raft if you stay close to the coast, but one thing is for sure, you are safer with one than without one!  As we are hoping to go right over the top of scotland, we think this is an important piece of equipment.

So if any of you have a fully serviced 4 person liferaft sitting in your attic/ under a huge pile of miscellaneous marine junk in one of your cockpit lockers, or more likely know of any connections within the marine liferaft industry then please let us know. If not please spread the message around your friends, colleagues, and church.

Many thanks
Mary and Becky

The Countdown Continues
We now have just 20 days until our departure!  We are leaving on the midday tide from Trinity, Tollesbury; so feel free to come down and enjoy some tea, cake and fellowship before waving us off.

Mary has been revising hard for her finals, and I have 1500 words left of my last essay, so university is slowly winding down.  However, Jellyfish things are begginning to hot up again (as is the weather!).  We have been in contact with a couple of newspapers, who are interested in writing about our adventure, and all sorts of other links are starting to fall into place- so keep your ears and eyes open for FACT in the news.

Another update on sponsorship- we are almost at 20% of our target, so thank you!  We would love it if you can share what we are doing with people you know, so point them to this blog, or email us, and we can provide you with some literature designed to communicate what we are doing, and who we are doing all this for.

Thank you for all your support so far,

Becky and Mary

Sponsorship Update
Firstly, a huge THANK YOU to all who have already donated sponsorship to the bursary fund, and have helped us reach 8% of our target!  We now have just 28 days until we leave, with alot of work to be done in that time- so prayers for energy and focus would be really appriciated.

Finally, I am pleased to annouce that we now have official sponsorship from www.clothes2order.com who are kindly providing Mary and I with some kit, as well as giving you the oppotunity to raise awareness of our trip.  There is now a clothing store where you can grab a limited edition t-shirt or jumper with the JellyFish Adventures logo, and even better, 15% of the money goes to FACT.

Keep an eye out for blog updates, and help us spread the word!

Becky (and Mary)

One Month
Today is the 12th May, and in exactly one months time Mary and I will be setting sail past the lightship and the salt marshes and out to the sea.  We will be leaving on the midday tide, from Tollesbury, so feel free to come along, have a look at JellyFish and wave us off!

Until then, however, we have much to be getting on with, including finishing our degrees, so please pray for us, for safety and energy, in this last month before departure.

Thank you for all your support so far, and keep checking up on here to find out the latest news. Remember, the map will become live with our location from the 12th June, and you can leave comments on here or the JellyFish Adventures facebook page, and we will see them.

Becky (and Mary)

40 days!
Well, as you can see by the title, we have 40 days until departure.  We will be leaving on the midday tide on the 12th June, so feel free to come down to Tollesbury and wave us off!

Mary and I have been busy.  I am putting the finishing touches to my dissertation, and Mary is revising hard for finals.  Although JellyfishAdventures has been put on a back burner slightly, there has been some progress.  We are hoping to confirm a clothing sponsor within the next week, and are now the proud owners of an inflatable tender.  We have also written down a huge list of all the equipment we will be carrying on the boat- from the sails and the engine, to spare screws and hair elastics- so hopefully we won't forget anything!

There should be more updates coming your way as our departure date draws closer, so keep an eye out for us.

About the Boat
The boat, Jellyfish, is a 21ft Mark II Corribee built in 1980. She is a bilge keel (two short fins on either of side), which makes her ideal for the East Coast where she is moored.

Although easliy controlled by one person we have decided to do this together because 10 weeks on your own sounds like a long time to us, and the challenge of coping with each other for that long will undoubtedly create some intersting posts!
Corribees are well known for their sea worthiness. Dame Ellen MacArthur sailed around Britain in Iduna, her own Corribee, when she was 18 years old. Since then several have crossed the Atlantic, although we don't plan on going that far yet.

For more information on the boat you can go to the Corribee Class Association website, for more information about our trip have a look at our Big Plan
